2025-2026 LICENSE RENEWAL OVERVIEW
In October, all persons holding a Real Estate Broker or Salesperson license due to expire in 2024 were sent a renewal Notice for 2025-2026. Your Notice was mailed to your broker's main office address, unless you have informed us of your preferred contact address. In order for mail to be deliverable, the Post Office must have the names of all persons receiving mail at that address.
Opportunities to RENEW On-line
Our website has been developed to better serve you and we are constantly updating it to even better serve licensees and the public. We hope that you have acquainted yourself with the site and the tremendous amount of material already available on it. We are seeking to bring you greater opportunities in this medium. The opportunity to submit a renewal online is strongly encouraged (see our article on the Website in the Fall Commission Comment Newsletter). When renewing online please remember that all deadlines apply to online renewals just as they would any other. Please also remember that you CANNOT fill out online renewals for anyone but yourself. IF MULTIPLE LICENSEES USE THE SAME COMPUTER TO RENEW THEIR LICENSE ONLINE, THEY MUST LOGIN TO THEIR LICENSEE PORTAL AND LOGOUT BETWEEN USERS. Once you enter this page, your identification is automatically supplied on the form(s). ANY ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE BESIDES YOUR OWN WILL INVALIDATE THE RENEWAL FORM. It is recommended that you keep a copy of the submission confirmation page for your records.
FOR THOSE RENEWING ON ACTIVE STATUS- You will not be able to complete the renewal form or submit the form unless your continuing education has been met and your error & omissions insurance has been verified to our office.
We will provide paper renewal packets upon request but we strongly encourage all licensees with internet access to renew online. All active licensees no matter how they are renewing their licenses will have to be able to document their continuing education compliance and appropriate Errors and Omissions Insurance coverage prior to submitting their license renewal. Please view the Two-Year Errors and Omissions Insurance Policy Change Effective January 1, 2025.
The online renewal pre-populates the form with the most current information we have on file for the licensee, and the system provides prompts so that is is much more difficult to accidentally miss something. This customization of the process eliminates many of the calls from the Commission that interrupt your day and proves much more efficient and cost effective for all of us.
DEADLINE REMINDER
December 2, 2024 is the deadline for submitting renewal application materials for all active and inactive salespersons and brokers, along with the proper fees and, if needed, continuing education and errors and omissions insurance. These materials must be submitted prior to December 2. 2024 or, if renewing with a paper form, may be postmarked (postal meter marks will NOT be considered) or received in the Office of the Nebraska Real Estate Commission, 301 Centennial Mall South, PO Box 94667, Lincoln, NE 68509, by December 2, 2024 in order to avoid a late fee. The Office is open until 5:00 P.M. (CST).
LICENSES HELD ON INACTIVE STATUS MUST BE RENEWED TOO.
Renewals relating to inactive licenses are subject to the same deadlines as described in this article.
INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS
NO RENEWALS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNLESS THEY ARE FILLED OUT COMPLETELY AND SUBMITTED TO THE COMMISSION. There should be no questions left unanswered. If active, make certain your errors & omissions insurance and continuing education requirements have been verified to the Commission Office PRIOR to renewing your license. If you are unsure as to how to complete your renewal we will be happy to answer any questions you may have. DO NOT SUBMIT INACCURATE OR INCOMPLETE RENEWALS FOR ANY REASON. THESE MAY JEOPARDIZE THE TIMELY RENEWAL OF YOUR LICENSE AND COULD RESULT IN THE ASSESSMENT OF LATE FEES.
LATE RENEWALS
Any salesperson or broker who fails to file an application for renewal of a license and pay the renewal fee by the November 30 date, as provided in the Nebraska Real Estate License Act and Neb. Rev. Stat. ' 49-1203, may file a late renewal application with all required information included and must pay, in addition to the renewal fee, the sum of twenty-five dollars for each month, or fraction thereof, beginning with the first day of December; provided that such late application is filed before July 1 of the ensuing year.
Bundling paper renewals can cause situations to occur where late fees can accrue, if the bundled renewals are not submitted considerably early, to allow for review and processing to take place prior to December 2.
If multiple paper renewals are paid with one check and there is anything wrong with any renewal, non can be renewed until the problem is remedied. If this makes them late, all will be assess a late fee.
Renew Early!
The processing of renewal applications, as the volume of renewals received increases near the deadline, can be as long as a week to ten days. This being the case, the rejection of an online application or paper applications returned, by mail, in and of itself, can cause late fees to occur. Therefore, we encourage all licensees to submit renewals early and not wait until the last minute.
CREDIT CARD & ACH PAYMENTS
American Express, Discover, Visa and MasterCard may be used to pay fees associated with the renewal of licenses.
INSUFFICIENT FUNDS CHECKS
ANY PAYMENT RETURNED BY A FINANCIAL INSTITUTION WILL BE SUBJECT TO A $30 PROCESSING FEE. IT SHOULD ALSO BE POINTED OUT THAT THE LICENSE ACT PROVIDES THAT THE ISSUANCE OF AN INSUFFICIENT FUNDS CHECK MAY BE GROUNDS FOR DENIAL OR REVOCATION OF A LICENSE - THIS INCLUDES THE RENEWAL OF A LICENSE. A RETURNED PAYMENT FOR ANY REASON ACCRUES A $30.00 PROCESSING FEE.
